Travelling with a laptop can be a bit of a love-hate relationship. Usually you do need something powerful enough to get actual work done, but you are not looking forward to lugging a heavy device while exploring a new city.<\/p>\n
That was one of the reasons I really enjoyed bringing the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 with me to Australia. I took it along for my trip to Sydney and Melbourne, and it quickly became my go-to work machine whenever I needed to sit down and get some writing done.<\/p>\n
At around 930g, the X13 Gen 7 is incredibly light. When you’re already carrying your valuables, chargers and all the other things that somehow end up in a travel bag, every gram counts. It was easy for me to slip the X13 into my bag as I was setting off and carry it around for the entire day without really noticing it was there.<\/p>\n
A proper work laptop, just smaller<\/strong> As an editor at Kingsman Media, my typical day involves a ridiculous number of browser tabs, documents, press releases and research pages open at once. Add AI tools into the mix, and things can get pretty busy.<\/p>\n The X13 handled all of that without much fuss. From writing articles, editing drafts, researching products, checking specifications and jumping between different sources, the X13 took it with ease, and the movement across different tasks was smoothly completed.<\/p>\n AMD + AI fits my workflow<\/strong> Having a laptop designed around these AI workloads makes the X13 feel like a machine built for how I actually work today, rather than how I worked a few years ago.<\/p>\n One example was working on product articles while travelling. I’d often have multiple sources open while comparing specifications, looking for additional information and putting together the structure of an article. Having the X13 handle all of this while remaining cool, quiet and responsive made it easy to work from pretty much anywhere.<\/p>\n Staying connected on the move<\/strong> This was another area where the X13 proved to be a useful travel companion. Even as I moved between caf\u00e9s, hotels and other locations in Sydney and Melbourne, I was able to stay connected and jump into calls without having to constantly worry about whether my laptop could keep up.<\/p>\n The combination of Wifi 7, WWAN 5G and NFC connectivity options meant I could move between locations without feeling like I was completely disconnected from work. The 5MP webcam and Lenovo\u2019s smart autoframing in combination with Lenovo Clear Voice also made video calls straightforward. For a laptop that’s small enough to disappear into a backpack, having a built-in setup makes things more convenient.<\/p>\n Of course, your actual call quality will still depend heavily on the Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot you’re connected to. But during my time in Australia, the X13 handled the constant switching without hiccups between locations.<\/p>\n
\nThe ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 has a 13.3-inch WUXGA display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives you a tad bit more space when working on documents and browsing websites. \nThe X13 Gen 7 is powered by AMD Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series processors, giving it both the processing performance needed for everyday work and a dedicated NPU for AI workloads. AI has become a pretty normal part of my editorial workflow. I’ll use it to bounce ideas around, organise information, clean up a rough draft or help me get through a mountain of research before I start writing.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/nxtmag.tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IMG_8992-300x225.jpeg\")

\nWorking overseas doesn’t mean the work calendar suddenly disappears. During my Australia trip, I still had video calls and meetings to jump into, sometimes while moving between different locations.
