Half a century after introducing one of luxury watchmaking\u2019s most recognisable integrated-bracelet sports watches, Girard-Perregaux is marking the milestone with the launch of the Laureato Fifty collection. Rather than reinventing the icon, the Swiss manufacture has chosen to refine and elevate it, unveiling four new references that showcase enhanced craftsmanship, sophisticated dial executions and the in-house Calibre GP4800 movement.<\/p>\n
For Girard-Perregaux, the Laureato Fifty is not a nostalgic anniversary piece but a celebration of continuity. Since its debut in 1975, the Laureato has remained a symbol of architectural balance, technical precision and understated elegance. Fifty years on, the collection continues to embody the brand\u2019s integrated approach to haute horlogerie, where every aspect of the watch \u2013 from movement development and finishing to ergonomics and design \u2013 is conceived and executed in-house.<\/p>\n

The new Laureato Fifty collection is available in two case sizes, offering distinct interpretations of the iconic design. Alongside the contemporary 39mm version introduced previously, Girard-Perregaux now adds a new 36mm case size that revisits the original spirit of the Laureato with more compact and balanced proportions.<\/p>\n

At first glance, the watches maintain the collection\u2019s familiar octagonal bezel, circular plinth and integrated bracelet. However, closer inspection reveals a wealth of subtle refinements. Enhanced finishing, intricate dial craftsmanship and improved wearability, including a new micro-adjustment system integrated into the bracelet, underline the manufacture\u2019s attention to detail.<\/p>\n

The 39mm models place a strong emphasis on depth and texture. One standout reference features a striking blue enamel dial layered over the signature \u201cClous de Paris\u201d pattern. Crafted entirely in-house, the enamel work creates remarkable visual depth, with shifting reflections and rich colour variations that change depending on the angle of the light. Another 39mm model showcases an 18K rose gold-toned dial, where the textured surface and precious metal finish create a sophisticated interplay of warmth, shadow and brilliance.<\/p>\n

The newly introduced 36mm models offer a more refined and intimate take on the Laureato. One version features the same elegant rose gold-toned dial treatment found on its larger sibling, while another combines a silver-toned \u201cClous de Paris\u201d dial with a diamond-set bezel adorned with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds. Rather than overwhelming the design, the gemstones complement the watch\u2019s geometry, adding a subtle layer of luxury while preserving the Laureato\u2019s characteristic restraint.<\/p>\n
Powering all four models is the newly developed Calibre GP4800, an automatic movement designed and manufactured entirely in-house. Operating at 4Hz and offering approximately 60 hours of power reserve, the movement reflects Girard-Perregaux\u2019s longstanding commitment to technical excellence. Inspired by the architecture of the brand\u2019s famous Three Bridges movements, the calibre features a specially crafted rose gold balance bridge exclusive to the Laureato Fifty collection.<\/p>\n

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement showcases an impressive array of traditional finishing techniques, including Geneva stripes, anglage, circular graining, snailing and satin-brushing. These decorative elements serve as a reminder that the Laureato remains deeply rooted in haute horlogerie despite its sporty appearance.<\/p>\n
The Laureato\u2019s story began during a pivotal era in Swiss watchmaking. Following the development of Girard-Perregaux\u2019s groundbreaking quartz movement in 1971, the original Laureato arrived in 1975, combining cutting-edge technology with a distinctive design language that has endured for five decades.
