ASUS Republic of Gamers has officially announced the new ROG NUC 16, a high-performance compact gaming desktop designed to deliver enthusiast-level gaming, creative and AI capabilities within a remarkably small three-litre chassis. Announced on 18 May 2026, the system combines up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, bringing desktop-class gaming and productivity performance into a much more compact form factor.<\/p>\n

ASUS says the ROG NUC 16 is designed for gamers, creators and AI enthusiasts who want serious computing power without sacrificing desk space or flexibility. The system supports up to 128GB of DDR5-6400 memory, enabling smoother high-frame-rate gaming, faster multitasking and improved responsiveness during demanding creative workloads. Despite its small size, the ROG NUC 16 is built to handle modern AAA games, content creation and local AI computing tasks with ease.<\/p>\n
A major highlight of the system is its support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 technology, which leverages AI-powered Super Resolution and Multi-frame Generation to improve visual quality and gaming smoothness. ASUS says DLSS 4.5 can generate up to 5 additional frames per rendered frame, helping reduce latency and deliver more fluid gameplay. The updated Super Resolution transformer model also improves lighting, image detail and motion clarity, making the system suitable not only for gaming but also for demanding tasks such as video editing and up to 8K creative workflows.<\/p>\n

Combined with the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor, ASUS claims the ROG NUC 16 delivers up to 2.3% higher 3DMark performance compared to the previous-generation ROG NUC. The company is also positioning the compact desktop as an AI-ready machine capable of handling local large language models and AI agent workloads. With up to 1334 AI TOPS and 16GB of dedicated GDDR7 graphics memory, the system is designed to support advanced AI applications directly on-device.<\/p>\n
To manage the increased CPU and GPU performance inside its compact chassis, ASUS developed a redesigned thermal solution called QuietFlow Cooling. The system combines three large fans with dual vapour chambers to maximise airflow and cooling efficiency. ASUS says CPU thermal coverage has increased by 12% compared to the previous generation, allowing the processor to maintain higher sustained performance during gaming or intensive workloads.<\/p>\n

The ROG NUC 16 also includes a dedicated SSD heatsink that reduces SSD operating temperatures from 72\u00b0C to 59\u00b0C compared to systems without dedicated cooling. Despite the high-performance hardware, ASUS says the desktop operates at under 38 dBA under full workloads, roughly equivalent to the ambient sound level of a quiet library.<\/p>\n
The new ROG NUC 16 also introduces the series\u2019s first-ever Moonlight White Edition, giving users an additional premium design option. Housed in a metal chassis, the system features a patented removable stand that allows it to be positioned either vertically or horizontally, depending on the user\u2019s setup preferences. ASUS says the flexible design makes the system suitable for living room gaming, minimalist desktop setups and multi-monitor creative workstations.<\/p>\n

Connectivity features include Thunderbolt 4 support for high-speed external storage devices and ASUS GlideX, a cross-device screen sharing and control platform that works across wired and wireless connections. The ROG NUC 16 can also support up to five 4K displays simultaneously, expanding its appeal for both gaming and productivity environments.<\/p>\n
