When shopping for a laptop, I usually set a weight target of around 1.2kg. I find that anything more than 1.3kg would be a hassle to carry around. It is not that I have weak arms, but rather, it becomes less of a motivation to pack a laptop for casual outings or even for vacations. Obviously, many things have to be compromised, like the build and the screen size. It would be counterproductive if the screen is too small to multitask with several tiled windows.<\/p>\n

The Swift Air 16 meets many of my needs. Acer manages to fit a full 16-inch WUXGA 1920×1200 display and an extended keyboard for under 1000 grams. The magnesium-aluminium alloy body keeps the chassis sturdy enough for careful usage. I appreciate the rounded corners and edges that feel comfortable to handle. The webcam also comes with a built-in privacy shutter, so no more ugly stickies to cover up. Facial recognition is also quick to unlock, another plus point.<\/p>\n
I was a little surprised that Acer does not provide companion software to help the owner to manage computer settings like display, battery consumption, monitor outdated drives, and offer easy access to after-sales support. Its built-in speakers are not powerful enough to do justice to the movies or games that you play on it. The keyboard actions are good, but I am not a fan of the gapless keyboard layout as I tend to hit the adjacent keys frequently.<\/p>\n

Coming to the topic of AI computing, Acer relies on the Microsoft Copilot to bring that capability out-of-the-box to consumers. The Live Captions, which come with every Copilot+ PC, can translate over 40 languages, like French or Japanese, to English or Chinese (Simplified). Captions are processed on-device without accessing the Internet, keeping your content private. Acer\u2019s in-house Intelligence Space ecosystem requires a separate download, and the installation process may be a hassle for the uninitiated.<\/p>\n

The Swift Air 16 seems fitting for owners who do not require the extra bells and whistles, only the absolute bliss of lugging a featherweight device with heavyweight computing power. With a full-size HDMI port, USB Type-A, and two USB Type-C – as well as the good old 3.5mm audio jack – you can connect any legacy peripherals.<\/p>\n

Another litmus test for a reliable laptop is the ability to remain on standby and to wake up promptly without exceeding battery drain, and the Swift Air 16 seems to get that balance right.<\/p>\n
