The Canon EOS R50 V is a compact mirrorless camera designed with content creators in mind. I took it out for a spin at Jurong Lake Gardens, paired with the RF-S14-30mm f\/4-6.3 IS STM Power Zoom lens, and I was genuinely impressed by how much Canon packed into this lightweight body (just 551g including lens, card, and battery).<\/p>\n
The design feels clean and intuitive. With dual REC buttons \u2014 one on top, one in front \u2014 and shortcut keys for Colour Filters and Livestream, it\u2019s built for creators who often shoot themselves. The power zoom lens also panned smoothly, which was great for cinematic reveals.<\/p>\n

Canon makes it incredibly easy to shoot in different styles. Cinema View mode switches your frame to a 2.35:1 aspect ratio for that instant cinematic look, no setup needed. I shot the Pagoda Garden during golden hour, and the footage came out polished straight from the camera.<\/p>\n
For creative clips, I also played with Slow & Fast Motion mode, slowing scenes down by up to 2.5x in 4K. It handled subtle movements like reeds in the wind with ease, and without introducing noise.<\/p>\n
One standout feature is the 14 built-in Colour Filter presets, which let you create a stylised look without post-production. While vlogging after a rain shower, the filters helped brighten the scene and match the mood. Being able to preview in real time while recording meant less guesswork and faster edits later.<\/p>\n

Despite being a video-first camera, still photos from the 24.2MP APS-C sensor came out crisp and vibrant. Shots of the bonsai displays and lake sunset showed excellent detail and soft background blur, even without filters applied.
\nAutofocus was fast and intelligent. It tracked my subjects accurately, even as the lighting faded. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF handled face tracking, eye priority, and smooth transitions between near and far subjects effortlessly.<\/p>\n
Creators who livestream will love this: the R50 V has a dedicated Livestream button, and supports UVC\/UAC, so one USB-C cable connects you to your computer, with power and video. It even works wirelessly through Canon\u2019s Camera Connect or Live Switcher Mobile apps.<\/p>\n

Small touches like Smooth Skin mode and Close-up Demos AF (which shifts focus from your face to a held-up product) make live sessions easier and more polished.<\/p>\n
