A decade after the debut of the first automotive-inspired MB&F Machine, the brand unveiled the supercar-inspired HM8 Mark 2 in 2023. Following a successful launch of two editions \u2013 featuring white or green body panels, with the green edition limited to 33 pieces \u2013 the HM8 Mark 2 returns in 2024 with a new limited edition.<\/p>\n

This latest version features glossy sapphire blue bodywork, limited to just 33 pieces. The blue body panels, crafted with metallic pigments and translucent materials, echo the luxurious finishes of high-end car paints both technically and aesthetically.<\/p>\n

The Initial Dream<\/strong>
\nTo fully grasp MB&F\u2019s connection to the automotive world, one must step back to 1985. As children, we all have dreams \u2013 some come true, others fade, and some become so integral to our identity that they eventually manifest despite us.<\/p>\n

MB&F\u2019s founder, Maximilian B\u00fcsser<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This was the case for MB&F\u2019s founder, Maximilian B\u00fcsser, who spent his childhood dreaming of becoming a car designer. From age 4 to 18, his sketches and drawings were exclusively of cars. When his peers discovered other interests, B\u00fcsser remained dedicated to the aerodynamic lines and sleek forms of automobiles.<\/p>\n

The HM8 Mark 2, with its “double bubble” sapphire crystal, finds inspiration in iconic supercar designs.<\/p>\n

A Chassis Construction<\/strong>
\nThe engineering degree wasn’t wasted on B\u00fcsser. The HM5 and HM8 Mark 2 feature an independent water-resistant chassis with body panels added, while the HMX and HM8 have monobloc construction. The HM8 Mark 2\u2019s initial versions in white or British racing green CarbonMacrolon\u00ae had a matte finish on top and a high polish on the sides, with distinct colour pairings and limited to 33 pieces each.<\/p>\n

The new 2024 edition continues the homage to automotive design with 33 pieces featuring deep, glossy sapphire blue body panels. This colour, derived from metallic pigments in car paint, is mixed into resin with precision. The blue body panels are paired with a sporty and comfortable white calfskin strap.<\/p>\n

Under the Hood<\/strong>
\nThe HM8 Mark 2\u2019s technology is as impressive as its design. The titanium chassis is complex to mill, made even more challenging by the hardness of the alloy. The CarbonMacrolon\u00ae body panels, due to limited production quantities, are milled from a block, adding complexity to the watch\u2019s construction.<\/p>\n

MB&F\u2019s sapphire crystal production has always pushed boundaries, and the HM8 Mark 2\u2019s double-curved sapphire is no exception. Its production is 30 to 40 times more expensive than a dome sapphire, with high breakage risk during the many hours of production. Once completed, it is as robust as any sports watch sapphire crystal.
\nThe battle axe rotor, powering the movement, features a 22-carat gold blade just two-tenths of a millimetre thick, stamped with engraving already incorporated.<\/p>\n

A World-Premiere Crown<\/strong>
\nThe HM8 Mark 2 features a new type of crown with a “double de-clutch” system, enhancing space and security, an advantage for a sports watch.<\/p>\n
