When it comes to home renovation, do the husbands fork out more money than the wives? Do men and women really have different preferences? A survey by Qanvast seeks to find out the answers to these questions and more. Conducted in September 2019, the online survey involved 182 homeowners who have recently renovated their homes, amongst which, 36% are men and 64% are women.<\/p>\n

\"Interior<\/p>\n

Opinion #1: Men and Women have Different Tastes in Colour<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Qanvas<\/p>\n

False<\/em>. Although 43% of couples think that their colour preferences differ from their spouses\u2019, Qanvast\u2019s survey finds that over 80% of men and women ranked the exact same colour preferences as their top 3 choices: nudes, muted tones, monochrome (refer to table 1).<\/p>\n

Opinion #2: Men are Less Inclined to Research About Home Renovation than Women<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Qanvas<\/p>\n

True<\/em>. More than half of the women (56%) think that they contributed more to the research process than their spouses. Interestingly, only 19% of the men believe their spouses were more involved than themselves in the research process.<\/p>\n

Opinion #3: Women are Less Involved in Budget Planning than Men<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Qanvas<\/p>\n

False<\/em>. More than half of both men and women believe they contributed just as much to budget planning. They cited \u201cshared responsibility\u201d as the main reason why both they and their spouses have an equal say in budget planning.<\/p>\n

Opinion #4: Men Usually Fork Out More for Home Renovation Expenses<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Qanvas<\/p>\n

False<\/em>. Although none of the men said that their spouses forked out more for the renovation, 69% of respondents said that both their spouses and themselves contributed equally to the renovation budget. Common responses mentioned that their home is a shared space, regardless of earning power.<\/p>\n

Opinion #5: When it Comes to Renovation, Women are More Interested in Aesthetics While Men Tend to Care More about the Finances<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Qanvas<\/p>\n

True.<\/em> When asked which aspects of the home-renovation process they enjoyed the most, 86% of the women said \u201cfurnishing and decorating the home\u201d whereas 59% of the men said \u201cworking out the budget\u201d. Coming up with design ideas is the second most enjoyable aspect for both men (59%) and women (79%).<\/p>\n

As much as they may have similar or differing opinions on the topics above, more than 80% of both genders agreed that they have equal say towards their home renovations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
