Go by City Energy, the electric vehicle (EV) charging arm of City Energy, has unveiled Singapore’s first app-free EV charging experience, marking a major leap toward simpler and more accessible green mobility. The new “AutoCharge” feature lets EV drivers simply plug in and charge—no apps, no QR codes, no logins—after a one-time setup via the Go by City Energy app (also known as City Energy Go on iOS and Google Play).
This frictionless charging experience is now live at over 200 charging points in Singapore and Malaysia, thanks to a partnership with JomCharge, a leading Malaysian EV charging network operated by EV Connection.
“With AutoCharge, we’re redefining what it means to charge an EV,” said Perry Ong, CEO of City Energy. “Once a vehicle is registered, drivers no longer need to interact with their phones at the charging station. Just plug in and power up.” At launch, the feature will be available at five Singapore locations: Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Klimt Cairnhill, Komo Shoppes, North Gaia, and North Park Residences, with plans to expand islandwide in phases.
How AutoCharge Works
The AutoCharge system uses a combination of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the EV’s unique Charge Controller ID (EVCC ID) to identify and authenticate the car.
When plugged into a DC charger, the vehicle is recognised automatically through its onboard systems, eliminating the need for manual verification or internet connectivity.
Currently, AutoCharge supports EV models from AION, BYD, Chery, MG, and Tesla, with more brands to follow as City Energy continues collaborations with global carmakers.
Addressing EV Drivers’ Biggest Pain Points
EV adoption in Singapore is rapidly accelerating, with electric vehicles making up over 40% of new car sales in Q1 2025. However, the user experience still faces hurdles. Many EV drivers are frustrated by unreliable app connectivity in carparks, fragmented networks requiring multiple apps, and cross-border compatibility concerns.
AutoCharge aims to solve these issues by providing a universal and seamless experience, removing the need for repeated logins or app-switching, even during cross-border travel between Singapore and Malaysia.
Getting Started with AutoCharge
To activate AutoCharge, users must request a VIN from Go by City Energy and complete a one-time registration in the app. Once the EV is plugged in, the system detects the EVCC ID and prompts the user to unplug and reconnect the charger for pairing.
After setup, drivers can enjoy hands-free charging at any AutoCharge-enabled point without further interaction. Full details are available at www.cityenergygo.com.sg.
Supporting Singapore’s Green Future
This initiative supports the Singapore Green Plan 2030’s vision for cleaner transportation by removing barriers to EV adoption. City Energy has pledged to invest over S$100 million by 2030 to build a dense network of EV charging points across private and commercial sites in Singapore.
Beyond EV infrastructure, City Energy is committed to broader sustainability goals. As the sole provider of piped town gas to more than 900,000 households and businesses in Singapore, the company is exploring low-carbon hydrogen integration and other innovative solutions to decarbonise its energy portfolio. It also offers a range of smart, Internet-of-Things-enabled home appliances to help consumers monitor and manage energy use more efficiently.
From effortless EV charging to sustainable gas solutions, City Energy continues to evolve as a key energy solutions provider powering Singapore’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
