LG ThinQ ON: Revolutionizing Smart Homes with Affectionate Intelligence at IFA 2024

LG Electronics is set to debut the LG ThinQ ON AI home hub at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany, from September 6 to 10. This cutting-edge hub promises exceptional connectivity and expandability, establishing itself as the centrepiece of a complete smart home ecosystem where LG’s appliances and “empathetic” AI collaborate to offer personalized comfort, care, and convenience.

The AI home hub integrates seamlessly with a wide range of appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, enabling users to easily set up and enjoy a customized AI-powered home experience. Powered by LG’s unique Affectionate Intelligence, the ThinQ ON continuously learns from individual usage patterns and broader trends, enhancing the realization of LG’s “Zero Labour Home” vision.

With a compact, cylindrical design and a subdued grey/white colour palette, the LG ThinQ ON blends effortlessly into any environment. It features an AI speaker for interactions with LG’s AI voice assistant and for playing audio content. The hub’s advanced capabilities are driven by LG’s high-performance AI chipset, designed for future scalability.

Generative AI-Based Home Solutions Customized to Individual Preferences
The ThinQ ON enables users to control AI appliances and living spaces through natural, conversational voice commands, making interactions with the device feel more human-like. The AI home hub not only understands everyday language but also grasps the context of conversations, recognizing user preferences for each connected appliance, IoT device, and service. This adds a new level of “care” to the smart home experience. Additionally, the ThinQ ON autonomously monitors all elements within the smart home ecosystem, notifying users when tasks are completed or if issues are detected.

Users can also manage almost all appliance settings with voice commands and set up routines that automate the operation of appliances and IoT devices.

Connectivity, Expandability, and Versatility
The LG ThinQ ON is Matter-certified and supports various network connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread, ensuring easy setup and a seamless smart home experience.

It is compatible with a wide range of LG products and an increasing number of appliances and IoT devices from other manufacturers, allowing users to manage their entire smart home ecosystem from one place, now and in the future.

To further enhance ThinQ ON’s connectivity, LG recently acquired the smart home platform company Athom. Athom’s flagship smart hub, Homey Pro, can connect to over 50,000 devices, and its Homey App Store offers around 1,000 applications for managing products from global brands. LG plans to maximize the benefits of ThinQ ON’s open platform by continuously expanding the range of supported brands and devices.

Enhanced Security and Privacy Protection with LG Shield
The ThinQ ON employs LG Shield, the company’s proprietary security system, to protect customer data from collection and storage to usage. LG Shield encrypts user data and securely stores it on a separate server, ensuring that any required data modifications occur in a secure environment. This prevents external tampering with the operational code, guaranteeing customers’ safety while enjoying LG’s latest AI-driven innovations.

“ThinQ ON, an AI voice assistant and hub that serves as the centre of the smart home, brings us significantly closer to realizing our vision of the Zero Labour Home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG aims to make the ‘AI Home Lifestyle’ accessible to everyone and will continue to deliver customized comfort, care, and convenience through its Affectionate Intelligence solutions.”
