Lomography has teamed up with the renowned Austrian-born graphic designer Henry Steiner to create a special edition of the Lomo’Instant Automat Camera and Lenses. Known for his pioneering work in Hong Kong over the past 60 years, Steiner has designed everything from banknotes to brand identities for major corporations.
This collaboration merges his rich design legacy with Lomography’s innovative photography tools, resulting in a unique and captivating product.
A Cultural Collision
Henry Steiner, often referred to as “the Father of Hong Kong Design,” has profoundly influenced the visual landscape of Hong Kong. While his fame primarily stems from his graphic design work, Steiner is also an avid photographer who uses the medium to collect symbols that inspire his designs.
The Lomo’Instant Automat Camera and Lenses Henry Steiner edition celebrate his artistic journey, featuring artwork from his 2008 Hong Kong Vienna Opera Ball poster. Inspired by Gustav Klimt and Li Bai, this design exemplifies Steiner’s cross-cultural approach, blending Eastern and Western artistic influences.
This exclusive edition includes a Leporello booklet that details Henry Steiner’s story and design philosophy, available now on the Lomography website and selected retailers.
A Dash of Mischief
The camera’s design features a split image of two faces, symbolizing the harmonious interplay between two cultures—echoing Steiner’s creative sensibility. “I like to see where I can add a bit of mischief,” says Steiner.
This ethos is embodied in the included Splitzer lens attachment, an experimental tool for creating unique segmented images. Additionally, the camera comes with wide-angle, fisheye, and close-up lens attachments, encouraging playful and creative photography.
Users can experiment with multiple exposure modes, coloured gel filters, and a lens cap with a remote control shutter release for standout self-portraits or group shots. The camera is designed for use with Instax Mini film, inviting users to express their instant photography style.
