In 2013, Girard-Perregaux introduced the celebrated Constant Escapement L.M. It immediately caught the attention of critics and was awarded the ‘Aiguille d’Or’ at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) that same year. This model was distinctive because of its constant force escapement, which offered incredible precision regardless of energy levels.
The Neo Constant Escapement represents a fresh iteration of the brand’s innovative energy mastery, with a mix of visual and technical enhancements. While the Swiss lever escapement took 250 years to perfect, Girard-Perregaux’s Constant Escapement was realized in just two decades, reflecting their forward-thinking nature. This new timepiece remains true to Constant Girard’s vision of blending functionality with beauty but with a modern twist.
The Neo Constant Escapement offers a modern design perspective. Instead of a traditional dial, it highlights the intricate components typically concealed. This new model, part of the Bridges collection, has a dual character: it’s both cutting-edge and influenced by an award-winning pocket watch developed by Constant Girard in 1867.
This pocket watch, recognized for its precision, was unparalleled for 17 years, and when encased in gold, was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition. In this watch, Constant Girard transformed three bridges from simple functional parts to artful design elements, an ethos echoed in the Neo Constant Escapement.
The Neo Constant Escapement is an advanced version of its predecessor, integrating numerous new tech advancements. Impressively, 30% of the patents in this latest model, totalling 13, are brand new. The updated movement has a reduced part count compared to the 2013 version (266 versus 280), showcasing the brand’s focus on efficiency over complexity.
One challenge for many timepieces is managing the force from the fully wound spring barrel. Too much force can affect accuracy and damage the movement. Conversely, as the barrel’s energy wanes, the decrease in force can also impact precision.
The Constant Escapement solves these issues, supplying consistent force, resulting in impressive accuracy. This watch has been certified by COSC, validating its precision, reminiscent of the brand’s accolades from the 1860s with the Neuchâtel Observatory Centenary Prize.
The Girard-Perregaux Neo Constant Escapement is priced at SGD 138,400, inclusive of tax.
