Celebrating Casio’s 40th anniversary with even tougher materials

Casio Computer Co. Ltd. has launched the latest additions to its G-SHOCK Recrystallized series to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary. The GMW-B5000PS-1 and GMW-B5000PG-9 watches are based on the full-metal GMW-B5000D, which recreates the iconic shape of the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C.

The new models are tougher due to a deep-layer hardening process applied to the stainless steel used in the bezel and band. The process developed by Casio makes the material about three times harder than ordinary stainless steel. The stainless steel is also heat-treated and recrystallized, resulting in crystalline patterns against a matte texture. Each watch has a unique crystalline grain, resulting in subtle differences in pattern, colour, and lustre.

The silver GMW-B5000PS-1 and gold ion-plated GMW-B5000PG-9 feature the 40th-anniversary logo on the case back, the phrase “SINCE 1983” on the dial, and a star on the Mode button on the lower left side of the case. Additionally, Casio has launched the DW-5040PG-1 with a dial engraved with the words “PROJECT TEAM ‘Tough,’” the name of the team that developed the first G-SHOCK. The deep-layer hardening process is applied to the case back, buckle, band loop, and other metal components of the watch. Biomass plastics are used in bezels and bands.

The watches are priced at $1,249 for GMW-B5000PS-1 and GMW-B5000PG-9 and $449 for DW-5040PG-1. The watches will be available on https://www.casio.com/sg/ and at all G-SHOCK stores starting May 12th, 2023.
