Canon recently unveiled two new cameras – EOS R50 and EOS R8 and two new lenses – RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM to elevate content “cR8tion”. The EOS R50 is an entry-level camera that’s perfect for those seeking to upgrade their video quality while the EOS R8 is a compact, full-frame camera aimed at advanced amateur photo and video enthusiasts who want budget-friendly options without sacrificing performance.
High-Quality Vlogging Made Easy
“The new EOS R50 will deliver great outcomes for new users with smart features that enhance their photographs and videos. We want to empower content creators with the ability to focus on storytelling without feeling overwhelmed by the technical aspects of the camera. While equipped with strong technical functionalities from higher-end models in our EOS R system, the new EOS R50 remains small, mighty, and simple to use.” said Edwin Teoh, Head of Marketing, Singapore Operations, Canon Singapore.
EOS R50 guarantees top-notch video quality thanks to its 24.2 MP APS-C format image sensor, three times larger than smartphone sensors, resulting in sharper and less grainy footage, even in low light. It is the first EOS-series APS-C mirrorless camera to produce cropless 4K video oversampled from 6K, offering professional image quality.
Designed for intuitive vlogging, the EOS R50 features modes and features that simplify shooting, making it ideal for vloggers who want a high-quality dedicated camera without a steep learning curve. At 375g, it is lightweight and compact, perfect for vlogging on the go. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system provides intelligent focus switching, including a Movie for Close-up Demo mode for smooth close-ups.
The EOS R50 also features image stabilisation optimised for handheld vlogging and an Auto Leveling mode for tilted shots. Share your content quickly with high-quality live streams using just one USB-C connection and transfer videos and photos to your smartphone with ease through the Camera Connect app. The camera also offers a variety of new creative features to help you get great photos with ease, including Advanced A+, Creative Bracket, and Subject Blur Guide.
Capture high-quality source footage for your new productions
“Video is the norm in today’s digital and social media landscapes. The EOS R8 provides an affordable entry point for content creators who want to get serious about videography and improve their production capabilities. With its compact form factor, the EOS R8 is Canon’s lightest full-frame mirrorless camera. Combined with the affordability, we are confident that this camera will appeal to budding content creators.” said Edwin Teoh, Head of Marketing, Singapore Operations, Canon Singapore.
The EOS R8 is a compact and lightweight camera that weighs 20g less than the EOS RP, coming in at 461g with a battery pack and SD card. This makes it ideal for creative camera angles and transitions, especially with the Movie Digital IS which helps eliminate camera shake and provides 5-axis image stabilization during video shooting. The EOS R8 can produce stable handheld videos, even when using lenses without optical image stabilization. With a lens that has Optical IS, the two systems work together to produce enhanced image stabilization results.
The EOS R8 offers a variety of recording options to meet different production needs, from event coverage to short films. It has a newly developed 24.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor that enables 6K data and produces high-quality 4K UHD footage at up to 60p. The camera also has heat suppression measures that allow for unlimited recording time at 4K 30p and up to 30 minutes at 4K 60p.
For dramatic scenes, the EOS R8 allows for slow motion video with Full HD 180p, producing 30p output with action slowed down to 1/6 the speed. It also offers HDR PQ video and Canon Log 3, two options for recording 10-bit 4:2:2 high dynamic range video that can be used to suit your post-production workflow.
The EOS R8 has consistent and seamless focus, using the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology as the EOS R6 Mark II. The EOS iTR AF X system helps acquire focus as fast as 0.03 seconds, even in low light conditions, with a low light limit of up to EV-6.5 for stills and EV-4.2 for video, and high native ISO speed ranges of up to ISO 102,400 for still shooting and ISO 25,600 for video shooting.
Expand your photography with Canon’s two new RF-Mount lenses
Canon will also introduce two new RF-Mount lenses, the RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM and the RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM. The RF-S lens line expands with the RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM, a telephoto zoom lens that offers 4.5 stops of optical image stabilization and closes focusing. The RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is a compact standard zoom lens for full-frame EOS R-series cameras that offers true wide-angle to traditional “standard lens” coverage.
Both cameras offer high-quality video performance, including uncropped 4K video, full-HD to 59.94 fps, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF. They also feature wireless connectivity to compatible smartphones, USB streaming to computers via Zoom, Teams, or Skype, and convenient firmware updates.
Both Canon cameras and lenses will be available soon and prices will be shared once available.
