Coupled with the new improved Ceramic Shield, pro camera system, LiDAR Scanner and the biggest Super Retina XDR display, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max edition is a feat to admire. Available from October 23 and November 13 respectively, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available in four stainless steel finishes, including graphite, silver, gold, and pacific blue.
The iPhone Pro models will retain the 5G prowess and A14 Bionic chip excellence from their iPhone 12 counterparts. The new models’ speed can reach up to 4Gbps and users can enjoy stable and fast connections even in densely populated areas. Understanding the battery concerns of their users, Smart Data mode is designed to extend battery life by intelligently assessing 5G needs and balancing data usage, speed, and power in real time. The iPhone 12 models are also built with the A14 Bionic chip that has the fastest CPU and GPU by up to 50 percent compared to the fastest competing smartphone chips. This is good news for users, especially gamers and photographers. The chip also features a 16-core Neural Engine — for an 80 percent increase in performance — that is capable of completing 11 trillion operations per second, enabling improved performance on even the most intense machine learning models.
Super Retina XDR display
With the flat-edge design that features a surgical-grade stainless steel band paired with a precision-milled matte glass back, and the new Ceramic Shield, the iPhone Pro models are protected from day to day damage. The Ceramic Shield front cover goes beyond glass and is infused with nano-ceramic crystals to dramatically improve toughness and increase drop performance by 4x. The iPhone Pro models also offer the largest display on an iPhone with the highest resolution of nearly 3.5 million pixels coupled with the OLED displays that reach up to 1200 nits peak brightness. Rated for the IP68 water-resistance standard, the iPhone 12 Pro models are safe from everyday spills and up to 6 meters deep for up to 30 minutes.
Pro Camera System
Powered by A14 Bionic together with the new image signal processor (ISP), users can experience increased image quality and powerful computational photography capabilities not possible with traditional cameras. Pro models will also feature the new Apple ProRAW, coming later this year,5 which combines Apple’s multiframe image processing and computational photography with the versatility of a RAW format. Now, users can have full creative control over colour, detail, and dynamic range natively on iPhone or with other professional photo editing apps.
The new seven-element lens Wide camera with an ƒ/1.6 aperture will allow 27 percent improved low-light performance in photo and video in the iPhone 12 Pro model. This allows for more scenery to be captured with the optical zoom range of 4x using the 52 mm focal length Telephoto camera. While the iPhone 12 Pro Max will allow a 47 percent larger sensor with 1.7μm pixels for a massive 87 percent improvement in low-light conditions. It also includes the expansive Ultra Wide camera and a 65 mm focal length Telephoto camera for increased flexibility with closer shots and tighter crops with an 5x optical zoom range.
The videography experience will be enhanced with the pioneering feature of shooting HDR videos with Dolby Vision of up to 60 fps with improved cinematic video stabilisation. Users can also share their videos with support for AirPlay up to 4K Dolby Vision to external devices
AR and Innovative Camera Experiences
The all-new LiDAR Scanner will be available to the Pro line offering the ability to measure light distance and use pixel depth information of a scene. This will allow for faster, more realistic AR experiences and improves autofocus by 6x in low-light scenes for more accuracy and reduced capture time in photos and videos. Combining with the Neural Engine of A14 Bionic, Night mode portraits, rendering a beautiful low-light bokeh effect will be unlocked.
MagSafe
The new iPhone 12 models are also equipped with MagSafe for high-powered wireless charging and a new easily attached ecosystem of accessories. Charging solutions include the MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo Charger for use with iPhone and Apple Watch, as well as new silicone, leather, and clear cases that easily snap onto the back of iPhone, and a leather wallet.
Commitment to Environment
Due to their commitment to have net zero climate impact across the entire business including manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles, Apple is removing the power adapter and EarPods from iPhone packaging. This allows for 70 percent more boxes to be shipped on a pallet and a cut of over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
