iPhone 17: Capturing the City’s Light, Just as It Is

From Android to iOS. I finally switched to the iPhone 17. It felt like a kind of relearning—not about understanding features, but about rediscovering how to see. It was a sunny day when I took it out for a walk along the river. The light was soft, the breeze was gentle. And with the very first photo, I could already tell—this phone was different.

The colours of the outdoors were rendered beautifully true to life: the blue of the sky, the red of the rooftops, the reflections along the bridge—all in perfect balance.

I especially love how smoothly it shifts between the 0.5× ultra-wide and the 1× main lens—no lag, no colour jumps, just a seamless flow, like a quiet breath. That sense of the camera “understanding you” is what makes taking photos on it so addictive.

Capturing Speed with Clarity
The F1 car display outside Marina Bay Sands was the scene I most wanted to test. Reflections, metallic paint, and complex lighting—normally a camera’s worst nightmare.

But the iPhone 17’s rear camera handled it effortlessly: the red finish stayed bright without glare, while shadows kept every detail intact.

Even more impressive is the front camera. It now supports landscape selfies with a wider field of view, allowing me to fit both myself and the entire race car in the frame. The composition feels more natural, the background more breathable, and I no longer need to step back just to get everything in.

When I tried taking a selfie with friends, the Centrer Stage feature automatically adjusted the framing to keep us perfectly centred—every smile right in focus. For vloggers, that’s a real game-changer.

Dual Capture: Both Sides of the Story
I also tried the new Dual Capture mode. Both the front and rear cameras work at once—one capturing me, the other what I’m seeing.

For creators, this feels like such a thoughtful upgrade. No second device, no post-editing; just one shot that holds both the storyteller and the story.

When Night Falls
After sunset, I wandered around Marina Bay and Chinatown, where the Mid-Autumn lights glowed softly in the night air. Each time I pressed the shutter, the iPhone 17 seemed to find the perfect exposure balance.

In Night Mode, lights stayed bright without blowing out, and the shadows stayed deep without losing texture.

I also played with the built-in filters—“Warm” quickly became my favourite. The photos come out ready to post, no extra editing needed. That quiet richness of colour under city lights is something this phone captures beautifully.

All-Day Power That Keeps Up
From morning to night, battery life stayed solid. And when I finally needed a recharge, it didn’t take long—about 45 minutes to go from 20% to 80%.

A quick top-up before heading out is enough for another full day of shooting, no more worrying about the battery dipping mid-moment.

iOS 26: Smarter, Softer, More Human
The new iOS 26 brings subtle yet delightful upgrades that show up in daily use:

• 3D Photos – Long-press to see images gently lift from the screen, as if they’re breathing.
• Glowing Siri – When you call for Siri, soft light glows along the screen edges—gentle, futuristic, almost alive.
• Translucent Interface – Menus and widgets now have depth and softness, making the entire experience lighter and more fluid.

None of these features tries to steal attention—they simply make every interaction smoother and more intuitive.

After a Few Days
After a few days with the iPhone 17, I’ve captured people, light, and the quiet rhythm of the city.

It doesn’t try to prove itself—it simply turns the world in front of me into images worth keeping. For me, it’s more than a new phone; it’s a new way of recording life—from the morning sun to the glow of city nights, everything captured just as it is.

The iPhone 17 is available now at Apple store and all telco shops, priced from SGD 1299

Phone 17:
