Limited to 222 units worldwide, the max bill Edition Set 2019 manufactured by Junghans is the centrepiece of breath-taking mechanical craftsmanship. The set comprises a self-winding chronograph and a table clock with mechanical eight-day movement. Both movements are fitted locally in the Black Forest – ensuring that the timepieces will be revered as collectors’ items and win the hearts of enthusiasts of traditional watchmaking.
With the max bill Edition Set, Uhrenfabrik Junghans commemorate their working relationship with Max Bill, which began back in 1956. The timepieces included in the set combine two of the artist’s creative areas: his constructive paintwork and the puristic product design.
Thus, each of the timepieces in this Editions Set speak a design language which could hardly be more pronounced. The matt silver-plated dial of the watch – in keeping with the premise “form follows function” – concentrates on the essentials and therefore exhibits excellent readability.
The design is based on the watches specifically created by Max Bill in 1961. Luminous substance on the hands, the digits and the calf leather strap, all finished in a subtle shade of black stand out in clear contrast to the lightly coloured dial. This puristic design language is also exhibited in the table clock – with a wooden case in black piano lacquer.
Max Bill’s handwriting is featured on both timepieces, as well as on the back of the casing: aficionados will discover the piece variation 15 here from the artist’s “quinze variations sur un même thème” (fifteen variations on the same theme) series. Based on the fundamental geometric theme, Max Bill describes his artwork for variation 15 as “a spiral-like motion made up of circular rings”.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the max bill Edition Set 2019 creates a connection between puristic design with the fascination for mechanical timepieces “for the purpose of rejoicing through his existence.”
